Acceleration is a change in velocity over time. This was one of the slower coasters in the park. If the 50 ft/sec that Six Flags advertised was correct, that translated to only 34 miles per hour. XLR-8 had two lifthills and no real drop. It was the first successful Arrow Suspended coaster ever put into operation and it was built for SFAW in 1984. When XLR-8 debuted, everyone thought it was O.K. Of the 10 Arrow Suspended coasters still in operation around the world in 2005, XLR-8 had the longest track length of any of them. (source:
