texas cyclone roller coaster during day in back seat (WWWA Productions)

The third coaster built for the park, Texas Cyclone, was SFAW's only wooden coaster. Patterned after the famous 1927 Coney Island Cyclone, it was designed and built in 1976 by William Cobb and Associates. This rollercoaster was constructed of 40,000 feet of Douglas Fir lumber, 750 cubic yards of concrete, 25 tons of steel, and 10,000 gallons of paint. This coaster debuted with some rarely seen 4 bench PTC trains. In the 1970s, all hailed Texas Cyclone as the wildest, most exciting wooden coaster in the world (source: SixFlagsHouston.com). The Texas Cyclone met its demise in 2006 when Six Flags sold the park and demolished the ride in order to sell the land it stood upon.
